Musings on hate

Life's funny. I mean, no matter who you are, how good or bad a person you are, there will always be those who will hate you, simply because they can. Maybe it's because of fear, prejudice, jealousy, or sheer irrationality. Nah, this isn't a whiny post. I'm just restating a thought I had over ten years ago, yet never fully embraced. What is about the human psyche, that practically seems to need this hatred? No, not all of us do, but I think most of us do have our buttons, which when pushed, will cause us to lash out in ways that we generally would not. Of course, this is quite different from real hate, but I think it does indicate the capacity we all do have. Under extreme pressure, most people will crack, entering fight or flight mode. It's just part of human nature. Just as it is part of human nature to take note of differences between people. Focusing upon these differences is the cause of prejudice, but also other forms of hate. A person may hate another because that person is more popular, or has more money. A person may hate someone because they do not get what they want from that person. Maybe the other person turns out to be someone different than previously thought. Maybe the person who hates expected too much from that other person. Maybe the hater is dealing with internal issues, and is lashing out at anyone who gets close. No, I don't condone any of this hate, but I do think it's important to understand. Then again, perhaps it's not really hatred that's the problem, but just plain desire. We desire more from others, we desire more from life, we desire more from ourselves, and when things don't live up to our expectations, we react with frustration, with anger. Of course, I've heard similar arguments about fear being the source of these other emotions. Maybe they are just variations on the same thing.

Oh, and it's drizzling outside, I absolutely love that. And, I'm half asleep as I'm writing all this, heh. Time for bed.
